I’m not a big fan of RPGs, but this is probably my second favorite game of all time. The story is excellent, and never really gets old. The characters, events, and levels are perfectly constructed.
Instead of the randomly occuring battles I hate so much in RPGs, SMRPG allows you to dodge the enemies out in the open, and only go into a battle if you collide. Once in battle mode, standard turn-based RPG combat ensues. However, instead of uses the arrows to navigate through menus, each option is given to one of the four main buttons on the SNES controller, making for the best RPG battles I’ve ever played.
There are countless secrets and items to collect in SMRPG. Even if the game is a bit on the short side, it can keep you playing long after you defeat Smithy.
SMRPG is probably the funniest Mario game.
I give a 10/10 [perfect].
