Pacific Rim (go see it!)

Directed by Guillermo del Toro, it's a movie about two people piloting these giant mechs called "Jaegers" (German for "hunter") in order to combat invading Kaiju (Japanese for "giant monsters).

I love this movie, and I REALLY hope it does better in the long-run, and people don't immediately dismiss it due to it's initial weak first weekend box office performance. My friend and I saw it, and we both thought it was weird how the theater we went to had very few/limited showings of the movie. that might help explain it. The saddest thing, for me anyway, is that it's being beat-out by Grown-Ups 2... And Despicable Me 2, but for some reason, I feel more forgiving with that one.

We also saw it in 3D, and let me just say, it really added to the experience... for me, anyway. It was just awesome all the way through! It also had quite a few funny moments, not unlike The Avengers last year!

Hard for me to say anything else about the movie, because, well, I just want more people to see it! Really, the plot is incredibly straight-forward and easy to follow. Some MIGHT say it's a little somewhat silly, but the execution really makes you not only forget that but go along with it! The movie has real franchise potential, and it just looks amazing! The Jaeger and Kaiju designs, I can't even begin to describe how cool they look!

Ugh, so many good things to say about this movie...

Planning on checking it out eventually, it looks pretty exciting. Kojima also apparently tweeted eight times in a row specifically to write out how much he enjoyed this movie and recommends seeing it, which may or may not be related to my interest in it.

On the Oscar's official YouTube channel, Guillermo del Toro talks about Pacific Rim in "Academy Conversations":

Saw this earlier today, and it was indeed as good as I thought it would be! My friends joked that it had more CG than a Pixar movie, but I'm glad movies have gotten to the point where the graphics look really believable.

I was a little disappointing seeing so many mech pilots die just after being introduced, but all in all it was a very solid plot and the movie did a good job telling the story of it.

Apparently, Pacific Rim did so well in China that a sequel is now likely:

Hideo Kojima, the creator of Metal Gear Solid said that a movie hasn't impacted him this much since 2001: A Space Odyssey. I'm going to see it tomorrow.

I just watched Pacific Rim the other day and enjoyed it, I'd like a sequel/spinoff that involves Godzilla fighting Jaegers.
