Hong Kong Phooey (plus Marvin the Martian)

by Smashmatt » Fri Dec 28, 2012 7:07 am

So, for those of you who haven't hear, after the "success" of live-action movies based on classic cartoons, i.e. Alvin and the Chipmunks and the Smurfs, Warner Bros. has announced several of it's own "live action cartoon" movies, including ones based on The Jetsons and Johnny Quest. Two other movies (that are apparently scrapped):

Are ones based on Hong Kong Phooey and classic Looney Tunes character Marvin the Martian. Real authetic test footage, by director Alex Hamm, can be seen here:

Good God, Eddie Murphy as Hong Kong Phooey... AUGHAUHGUAHG-

Although, the Marvin the Martians short wasn't that bad.

There is no God. Why does that asswipe of a show have to come back?
Also the breathmints joke wasn't funny when Madagascar did it, did you really need to steal it? And on Hong Kong Phooey no less, the epitome of cool.

Hong Kong Phooey was so cool; why would they want to ruin it with toilet humor and nunchucks to the nuts?

Marvin the Martian seems legit.

No it wasn't I despised that show and its shitty Ken doll artstyle and complete lack of animation more complicated than a walk cycle

I liked the 90s sequel series, but I was like six or seven back then so I don't remember if it really was terrible, or if everyone else in my household just had different tastes in cartoons.

Honestly, out of all of the choices, I think Johnny Quest is probably the one that would work best as a movie. Adventure, action, science, mystery, all that good stuff.

I'm not generally a fan of bringing back old things on a Hollywood set, but I'd have to agree at least that Johnny Quest would be the most fitting out of these. Hong Kong Phooey would SEEM like a fitting choice, too, but they really just dropped the ball completely if this trailer is anything to go by.

Well alright maybe Johnny Quest would be okay in live action as an Indiana Jones knockoff.
But the show still sucks.
