This was the deciding factor that made me do this.
I listen to music virtually all the time when I'm working on anything or playing games or any other time, really. Also like seeing what music videos people create from time to time. I should keep a pseudo-log of any of these things that happen to be on my mind at the moment!
I'll start things off with some more prominent ones I've been listening to in the last few days.
I'm not one for YTP, but YTPMVs are some of the consistently higher quality things I see made by the Youtube community more often than not. It's nice hearing nostalgic songs with humorous visuals sometimes. Also, using sound clips just pitch changed often gives a new style to the given piece being used. I like hearing new takes on songs, too!
It's a shame the only two sources I ever see used to make YTPMVs are TF2 and Ponies, I'd imagine it would be fun to see some other material being used as a sound source.
Other cartoons are fairly popular too. Like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tt0rPPpFT7M And then you can find related ones through the sidebar in a very Youtubey fashion. Anyway, I love YTPMVs too. They barely feel like YTPs at all, more like they're playing the music with sound clips. And that feels like there's a lot more effort put into it.
I have no clue how this turned out so well, but it's nearly perfect. Don't particularly care for Touhou, but it has ok music at least. The Sonic song it's mashed with pretty much sounds like the two were made for each other.
I've been holding off a bit on posting this one since I haven't listened to it for a while, but I may as well.
This pretty much blew my mind the first time I heard it in game. It's one of the most unique styles of music I've heard in games (this Jesper Kyd guy is really fuckin good at composing music) and it's basically perfect for the situations it plays in. The key targets you have to off (basically the bosses of the game) can fight you normally, yes, but the more ideal goal is watching them or stalking them until the perfect moment to stab them when they aren't looking. The challenge isn't the fighting so much as the being cautious for guards and not drawing attention.. It's exhilarating in the same way other stealth like Metal Gear are, and the second you kill them you get a really nice expanded cutscene as you and your victim are shown surrounded by a really cool, digital like empty space that looks really futuristic (supposed to represent the machine you present character is using while reliving the life of the Assassin in the past) and you get a pretty long back and forth with the person and you get to hear their side of things. Then you lay them down and see that basically every guard in sight. And then this song plays. Whether you stay around and fight or run across the city or the rooftops, this song reeeeeeally feels perfect for the moment. It's fast paced and exciting, it hast lots of style changes which end up coinciding with the mood more often than not, and it really fits the ancient Arabic feeling of the setting. Hearing this song in the game itself is really something that I can't even convey, it's just something that needs to be experienced if you want to fully appreciate it.
Super underrated song and probably nobody even remembers the courses it got played on
Back when people on Pictochat convinced me to download some derpy Touhou fighting game before I realized it was pretty bad, this was the only song that really stuck out. It's still pretty catchy, but apparently everyone who actually plays games in the series hates this rendition because the song it's a remix up is normally a slow paced orchestral theme or something? I don't fuckin' know really.
I've been listening to this on and off for a few days now, I had forgotten how awesome it is. It starts out slow and repetitive but by the 4 minute mark it's fucking godly.
Probably two of my favorite orchestral themes ever
This one specifically is amazing for everything it accomplishes. It hits a ton of different genres well and it all builds up to a breathtaking finish. It's really rare to hear such quality from a generic anime soundtrack, and I am very impressed by whatever music studio was responsible for providing for this show.
