Basically what the title is. I'm posting a track every day which fits my mood for that day. I could write about it, I could not. And you guys can comment if you want. This'll be a good way to get activity and to give me something to post without putting a whole lot of effort in. These tracks won't necessarily be amazing, per se, but they'll fit my mood for that particular day. A lot of them will be nostalgic, and they'll just be whatever randomly pops into my head. Keeping this separate from the what are you listening to topic so this isn't the only thing there. Also more topics and discussion is cool. For starters:
Super Metroid's best track in my opinion, especially how it works in game. See, before this, most of the music's pretty dull and "atmospheric" trying to put the desolation into it and whatnot. Then this song comes along and kicks your ass into gear, and makes you feel like you're going somewhere. Catchy, and I just really like the feel to it. I keep coming back to it for whatever reason.
Yeah I can see why, I see that as a very effective strategy a game can use, purposefully having a music piece stand out above the rest to make an entire area memorable!
All of it? Yeah no. hate Hate HATE They're so booooring. Best songs are stuff that made it as ocarina songs. Other than that, Gerudo Valley, Goron City, the town and shop themes, I guess the Temple of Time, and maybe the field theme (but only because I love how it starts)...a resounding MEH. I can't think of a single dungeon piece which really stands out to me. Other than the Forest Temple which stands out for being really grating and aggravating after a while. Which is bad since you spend most of the game in dungeons.
Creepy, subtle, with all kinds of interesting instrumentation, Frantic Factory is...probably not as good as Hideout Helm or the DK Rap, but it stands far above the rest of DK64's soundtrack, except maybe Crystal Caves if I'm in the mood for that sort of thing. Another track I come back to a lot, I just like how perfectly it encapsulates the tone of the level, while somehow being both catchy and foreboding. It's a very interesting song, to say the least.
I've heard this theme so much, and like all of Spelunky, it really grows on you over time. Spelunky's absolutely masterful at the concept of "growing on you." Anyway this theme encapsulates exploration. It's bouncy and appropriately catchy but never to the point of annoyance, and something in it just injects me with the desire to keep playing despite dying over and over again. It makes you feel hopeful, that this round will be a good one, and that all of your effort won't go wasted because you made a stupid mistake (which is almost always 100% your own fault)
Ah, The Sims Bustin' Out, truly one of the most overlooked gems of the GBA, along with an almost equally as good sequel in The Urbz. Not only is the gameplay solid and refreshing (nothing like how dull and slow paced the PC or console versions could be), but the music has the single best instrumentation on the system. It's notable for, in spite of the GBA's awful soundchip, somehow dealing out kickin' jams of near-console level sound quality. Here's one such example, but I implore you to look up more. The individual tunes, while nice, don't stand out as much on their own. They're very much a sum of their parts.
