Hillcrest Laboratories sued Nintendo today claiming the game maker is using their motion-control inventions in the Wii, Bloomberg reports.
Hillcrest is seeking to block imports of the Wii and Wii remotes, according to a complaint filed today with the U.S. International Trade Commission in Washington. Hillcrest also filed a civil suit in federal court in Greenbelt, Maryland.
"While Hillcrest Labs has a great deal of respect for Nintendo and the Wii, Hillcrest Labs believes that Nintendo is in clear violation of its patents and has taken this action to protect its intellectual property rights,'' the company said in a statement.
Three of the patents are for motion control tech and a fourth for the graphics user interface. Hillcrest are the people behind motion-control tech Freespace and a graphic interface tech called Home.
Bloomberg reports that the ITC case will likely go first and can take about 15 months to be investigated.
From Kotaku
As most people are wondering, it's odd that they decide to do this two years after the Wiis release. It's all BS...just another company trying to make money without having to do anything.

If you didn't know already - Nintendo's E3 was far from good, but the REAL news has finally arrived. After the conference, and being questioned, Shiggs hinted (pretty much confermed) And new zelda game for the wii, AND ds. Also when questioned about a POSSIBLE Mario galaxy sequel, he (shiggs) said "Leave it to me" implying he,too , would like a sequel. And as for the Pikmin series, he had a surprise in store! He said when the time to annouce such a title comes, he would announce it. Apperantly that time was now! He flat out said "We are making Pikmin". But for the people who are skeptical over it, yesterday, on July 25, he yet AGAIN confirmed the fact that a new Zelda, Mario, AND Pikmin game are in the works and thier respective teams have been working very hard, to get this games out. "Making these 'traditional' games is what I am best at. Because games of that nature take upwards of two or three years to make, we always have to keep the teams working on those projects going. At any given time, the team could be five to ten people, or it could be 50-plus. People are always switching in and out of those teams. They are all working on more Mario, Zelda and Pikmin projects, and they all work in close proximity to me, so I can keep a good eye on them."

A some of you may have noticed, there weren't many games Nintendo revealed that were that thrilling. Sure, there was information about the new Animal Crossing, Wario Land, and Kirby Super Star Ultra games, but we already knew those were coming.
Shigeru Miyamoto sheds some light onto this in an interview with him.
His quote:
"I think that there’s probably one other element to it, and that’s that our view of how we use E3 has changed. For a very long time, E3 was an event where — and certainly Nintendo included — catered specifically to the core gamer. Now we look at more … an opportunity for us to introduce new concepts and new types of play that we intend to bring to the broader audience, particularly because of the media that gathers at E3 now.
So while attending an E3 event like this, they might be given the impression that Nintendo is no longer focusing on the games that appeal to the core gamer, in fact we’re still working on many of those titles, but it’s just not the type of event where we’ll be showcasing that anymore."
In other words, games revealed at E3 are now more about appealling to the media and casual gamers. While there ARE games of interest for long-time gamers, it seems that Nintendo has decided that E3 isn't the place to reveal them.
My thoughts: Wow, E3 sure has taken a turn... For better or worse, I don't know if I can say. I used to look forward to E3 for all the new gaming info, but now...
Oh well, I hope this answers some questions.
