Because Pokemon is dead to me.
I remember when Pokemon got it's start. It was amazing, and it really appealed to the child inside. It had all the action that boys and teens like, yet had the feel of caring for your own pets and having partners you can trust. Plus it was a huge social thing with link cables involved. And the merchandising. Oh the merchandising.
I VIVIDLY remember second gen. It was the epitomy of gaming. Twice the content, twice the gameplay, twice the fun. So many things about this made it perfect. Not to mention that the music has made me adore chiptunes to this day.
Third gen was great too, though some of the features left things to be desired, but overall it had great new additions to the rosters, fun places to go, and battle frontier made it more fun with Emerald.
But forth gen is something that I can only describe as ruining something great. They took just about every pokemon that hasn't been evolved and raped them. Magmortar? Yanmega? Lickylicky? These are the things that haunt my nightmares! Sad as it is, "rape" is the most appropriate word to describe this. Sure, it has improved gameplay, improved competitiveness, and lots of new features. But that just can't patch out the hole it made by taking things held sacred from my childhood and ruining them for me. This is something that could have been forgiven under normal circumstances, but the fact that 60% of the NEW forth gen pokemon are stupid or poorly designed just adds to the insult.
Sure, you could make the same arguement for second gen, considering they evolved more of the previous 150 than any of the other games, but at least they did it RIGHT. They didn't give unnecessary evolutions, they gave out cool evolutions that actually worked. As a kid, I could really get behind the idea of badass Scyther getting an even more badass metal form, or an overlooked pokemon like Seadra getting the ability to change into a dragon. Where in any logic does turning Tangala into...that...improve it in anyway?
I'm sorry that I'm bitter, but I'm not exactly rational when my inner fanboy is speaking. I don't really want to get into a debate or anything, but I, as a person, think that making a fifth generation would just be trying to prolong the pain of a series ready to succumb. Not to mention that they'll end up evolving Tauros, Mr. Mime, or Ditto if they have a fifth gen!
^ I meant that in the most non-rapist way possible btw.
